Advancing Trucking Technology with our Latest Innovations

Welcome to the roundup of our latest innovations for advancing trucking technology! At our recent User Conference, a multi-day event held annually for our user community all throughout North America, we unveiled a range of new trucking industry innovations that are all about making life on the road safer, more compliant, and easier for both drivers and fleet managers. Our focus? Solutions that are practical, easy to use, and directly address the everyday challenges in trucking.

Advancing Safety and Compliance

Safety and compliance are at the heart of successful trucking operations. We’re excited about our enhanced logbook management capabilities, which now includes more effective reminders for drivers to sign off their logs. This simple yet effective change means fewer headaches over compliance issues.

In tune with the trucking industry’s needs for innovative driver compliance solutions, we’ve also updated our solution to support various regional exemptions. Whether it’s Canadian fertilizer, agricultural, or oil field exemptions, we’ve got you covered. Supporting this regulation helps make compliance easier, no matter where you’re going or what you’re hauling.

And then there’s our AI-capable camera monitoring. We’re using smart technology to ensure that camera feeds are clear and correctly positioned. This is more than just about compliance; it’s about enhancing road safety and, most of all, ensuring that drivers have reliable evidence in case of incidents on the road.

Boosting Driver Happiness

User-friendliness is key in our system updates. We’ve made significant improvements to our interface, making it more intuitive for drivers to correct logbook entries and manage their driving segments. These changes may seem small, but they can greatly reduce the daily stress and workload for drivers.

Furthermore, we know that a happy driver is a productive driver. That’s why, as part of our 2023 trucking industry innovations, we introduced the ISAAC Connect App, designed for real-time messaging and trip planning. It’s all about keeping drivers connected and informed, reducing the stress of uncertainty when away from the cab.

Workflow enhancements are also part of our offer. By streamlining processes, we aim to make the driver’s experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Streamlining Operations with Technology

For fleet managers, staying on top of operations is crucial. That is what we design efficient, easy-to-use technology for trucking operations. Our real-time trucking notifications for hours-of-service violations are designed to help you manage activities proactively, preventing arising issues from becoming problems.

Our enhanced trucking API integration capabilities are another exciting development. With new endpoints for logbook data and diagnostic trouble codes, integrating data into your existing systems is now smoother. This means less time grappling with tech and more time focusing on the road.

Effective Training and Onboarding

We understand the challenges of introducing new technology to drivers. That’s why we’ve developed a virtual vehicle tool for effective, hands-on truck driver training. By simulating the experience of using ISAAC’s system as if in a real vehicle, the tool allows drivers to get comfortable with the technology in a controlled environment before hitting the road.

Easy transition when implementing technology is a priority for us and was ever-present when developing our 2023 Trucking Industry Innovations. We aim to make the switch to new systems as seamless and stress-free as possible, boosting driver confidence and competence with easy-to-learn driver tools.

Conclusion: A Future-Focused Approach

Innovation is a journey, not a destination. At ISAAC, we are committed to continuously evolving the ISAAC trucking solution to meet the needs of the industry with future-focused technology. Our latest features are a testament to this commitment. They are designed to ensure that every mile driven is safer, compliant, and more efficient.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to pave the way for a more connected and efficient future in trucking. Thank you for joining us on this journey!

Truck drivers tend to lead very busy lives when away from their trucks and may appreciate a simple means of staying in touch with dispatch or fleet management wherever they are. To that end, the new smartphone app, ISAAC Connect, is a perfect complement to the rugged ISAAC tablet. Designed specifically for truck drivers, ISAAC Connect provides an additional window to some of the most useful features of the ISAAC InControl tablet software.

More about ISAAC Connect

The essentials at a glance

Available on both the App Store and Google Play, the ISAAC Connect app is not a substitute for the tablet or any other component of ISAAC’s solution. It simply offers an additional way to perform some key functions to help connect drivers with the back office when they are away from their trucks. The main functions include:

  • Messaging with dispatch or fleet management
  • Viewing trip instructions and communicating upcoming availability
  • Getting a summary of current hours of service (HOS) information
  • Consulting reports and documents as needed

Intuitive and flexible

Smartphones have long been universal, and most people have considerable experience with mobile apps as consumers. Drivers are no exception. As such, drivers know what to expect from a well-designed app. It should be highly intuitive and easy to use.

ISAAC Connect, like any good modern app, requires no special training to figure out how to use its features. Once drivers have downloaded the app and logged in for the first time, most can start using the various features immediately. Beyond providing a highly intuitive user experience, ISAAC Connect allows drivers display all HOS regulation zones or only the zones that are necessary for their work.

Seeing what comes next

Most workers like to have an idea of what their workday will involve before starting the day. Truck drivers can enjoy the same sort of forewarning before they arrive at their workplace —their truck. ISAAC Connect does just that: it empowers drivers with the basic information they need about their upcoming activities.

ISAAC Connect lets drivers view the details of their next scheduled trip, or, alternatively, it lets them communicate their upcoming availability. They can also view their logged HOS. More generally, it enables drivers to stay on top of any important information.

Improving efficiency

A primary goal behind the ISAAC solution is to bring increased efficiency to trucking operations. The reality is that carriers run on tight margins, face fierce competition, and must comply with many regulations. Fleet managers know that even a small increase in operational efficiency can quickly generate a positive return.

This dedication to faster, more efficient operations extends to ISAAC Connect. By giving drivers one more tool to make their lives easier and help them work more efficiently, ISAAC Connect can help to raise efficiency and productivity for the entire fleet.

Making drivers happy

Driver retention continues to be an issue for carriers , everywhere. It therefore makes sense to take advantage of opportunities to keep drivers happy, particularly when there is also a direct benefit in the form of increased efficiency and productivity. The ISAAC Connect mobile app fits the bill.

Drivers appreciate having a fast, convenient, and easy way to stay in touch with dispatchers when they are away from their trucks. Meanwhile, the increased efficiency and timeliness of communications, especially in terms of knowing who is available for the next delivery more quickly, helps to better operations.

Keep your drivers and dispatchers connected beyond the cab. Contact us to learn more.

ISAAC’s latest features allow to perform preventive maintenance, manage personal views on assets, use hours of service information to improve other processes, and optimize truck loads.

To help simplify trucking, our team is constantly working on the evolution of ISAAC’s solution!

1. Simplify wheel retorquing

Avoid wheel separation with simplified wheel retorquing management. In addition to the wheel retorquing feature for drivers on the ISAAC InControl tablet, mechanics and safety managers can manage wheel retorquing directly in the ISAAC InRealTime web portal or via their maintenance systems thanks to integration.

2. Prevent expensive repairs with diagnostic trouble codes in real time

Every truck generates a large amount of diagnostic trouble codes (DTC). ISAAC’s solution helps carriers filter through all this noise by allowing them to retain only codes of interest.

ISAAC’s DTC tool empowers maintenance managers to make proactive repairs at the first signs of trouble by relaying the information to their maintenance systems through APIs.

3. Improve productivity by managing assets visibility

The new assets access functionality allows carriers to manage the visibility of assets (drivers, trucks, trailers) for ISAAC solution users.

Enhance productivity by displaying only relevant assets, whether by terminal, division, business unit or any other useful grouping.

4. Leverage hours-of-service information

Enhance your internal processes by exporting your drivers’ hours-of-service information via ISAAC API’s. The information includes the drivers’ time spent in each duty status and the distance traveled.

This type of information can, for example, help facilitate driver payroll by connecting ISAAC’s data with timesheet reports.

Speaking of service hours, also know that ISAAC regularly updates its solution to meet the specific hours-of-service requirements based on region and operational exemptions: U.S. agricultural exemption, Canadian fertilizer exemption (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba), and Texas Intrastate HOS.

5. Get accurate freight dimension information

Get even more value out of ISAAC’s Pickup & Delivery module by having drivers enter the cubage of different-size pallets in a load.

Use this information to help with planning as you’ll be able to determine remaining floor space and improve billing accuracy and timeliness.

If you are already an ISAAC client and want to take advantage of these improvements, contact your Client Success Manager to schedule your update. You’ll find complete documentation on your ISAAC InRealTime portal and on the Client Center.

In addition to Canadian ELD functionality, here are some of the features that have been added to our fleet management solution. Our team is proud to help you optimize operations and save time, and is constantly working on the evolution of ISAAC’s solution

Dear ISAAC clients, do not hesitate to contact your Client Success Manager to schedule your update and take advantage of this version’s new features. You will find complete documentation on your ISAAC InRealTime portal and on your Client Center.

More efficient route navigation with CoPilot TruckTM

Fleet Portal and Content Tools enable the editing of navigation maps and identification of routes to take and those to avoid. With Route Reporter, you will know if your trucks are using the proposed route or deviating from it. You may also synchronize these preferences with the PC*MILER software.

Together, these new tools will reduce discrepancies between the routes calculated in the dispatching software and your drivers’ real itinerary. As a result, your billing will closely match the real millage.

Also, determining which routes to avoid will improve operational efficiency by steering clear of temporarily closed routes and bridges, as well as dense traffic.

TMS integrations – CoPilot TruckTM routing profiles & waypoints

Routing profiles and waypoint information may be added to trips and transferred to drivers’ tablets inside the truck. You can select different routing profiles for different stops inside a trip to optimize truck routes based on the type of load, for example. For a driver hauling hazardous materials, selecting a preconfigured “hazmat” routing profile will ensure the suggested route avoids tunnels for instance.

Waypoints (drive-by locations that don’t require stopping) can also be specified to ensure drivers follow a specific route in getting to a destination. Drivers will not see the waypoints on the route displayed, but adding them in CoPilot TruckTM will trace out a route that includes these specific locations.

To activate CoPilot TruckTM routing profiles & waypoints, your TMS integration mechanism must be updated to use the ISAAC API that supports this feature.

ISAAC InView – On-demand video extraction

This interesting new feature improves upon ISAAC InView’s critical events made automatically visible in ISAAC InRealTime. Your safety managers can now retrieve any video footage of interest whether associated with a hard maneuver or not. The accelerated videos allow them to browse a 20-minute recording in 20 seconds, and then select a complete 20-second clip of their choice.

The new on-demand video extraction provides additional context surrounding any event, and can help investigate a public complaint or incident. If you receive a complaint concerning a driver’s driving behavior in a geographical area, you can quickly retrieve the footage to analyze the incident and take action if necessary.

Scan 2.0 – Sharper images, easier scanning

We improved Scan 2.0 to produce higher-quality black and white scans with sharper contrast. In addition, your drivers can now perform scans using manual cropping, instead of the default automatic cropping mode. Manual cropping is especially handy when scanning documents in dimly-lit or tight spaces such as a truck cab, which make auto-cropping detection tricky.

Scan 2.0 works on all ISAAC InControl tablet models.

ISAAC InRealTime – ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) events can now be viewed among critical events

Leverage the trucks’ OE sensors with ISAAC’s advanced telemetry to gather more accurate data about driver behavior. The ISAAC InRealTime critical events portal now supports ADAS-generated events such as forward collision warnings, emergency braking and dynamic stability control. These ADAS events, plus lane departures, are shown on the new ADAS Report in ISAAC OnRecord.

To activate this feature, you must make a request to ISAAC’s Technical Support team or to your Client Success Manager.
